Award-Winning Care at Katzman Family Center for Living
For over 100 years, the Katzman Family Center for Living, the flagship property of Chelsea Jewish Lifecare has cared for individuals with compassion, dignity and respect. Founded in 1919 by Lena Goldberg, the original goal of Katzman Family Center for Living was to create a welcoming home for neighboring elders.
The Katzman Family Center for Living has consistently received the Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This designation reflects the highest number of stars allotted to a skilled nursing facility.
Today, the concept has come full circle. We offer the highest quality of care to all our residents and families through the dedicated efforts of our specially trained staff members. Our mission is to provide exceptional skilled nursing care in a warm and inviting setting. Recently the Katzman Family Center for Living underwent a dramatic $16 million renovation. The completely remodeled five-story building reflects a legacy Green House® skilled nursing model, with kitchens on every floor, spacious gathering spaces and an abundance of glass and natural light.
Just Like Home
The residences are inspired by the Green House® concept, which replicates the experience of living in a traditional home. Professional chefs prepare nutritious, delicious meals, using high-quality, seasonal ingredients in classic and contemporary recipes. Kitchens on every floor allow wonderful aromas to permeate throughout the house.
Our rooms feature flat screen TV’s, beautiful large windows and individually controlled heating/air conditioning. Cozy fireplace living rooms, open kitchens, and family style dining areas are situated on every floor.
European day spa and salon; lobby, café and chapel. Common spaces feature bright furnishings, natural light and scenic views. The residence offers three kosher meals per day prepared by a private chef.

Exceptional Skilled Nursing Memory Care
Memory support plays an integral role in our skilled nursing residence. Our goal is to provide a safe, structured home-like environment that enables residents to enjoy the highest possible quality of life.
We have revamped the highly acclaimed Music & Memory program, which focuses upon personalized music. Familiar songs can activate cognition and facilitate deep emotional recall. This program has had tremendous success in reaching individuals with dementia where other methods have failed. Our staff has been well trained to implement this unique program for those residents who need memory care.
Personalized music playlists, tailored specifically to each resident are compiled and placed on iPods. These musical favorites tap deep into memories not lost to dementia. Even for persons with severe dementia, music can spark memory recall.
Sensory stimulation is also important for people living with dementia. We have added multisensory activities such as planting vegetables and herbs in the gardens and arranging fresh flowers for our residents. They get to see, smell and touch the produce, which provides a deep sense of calm as well as the opportunity to recall their own home-cooked meals and backyard gardens.
Getting back to nature with easy yet creative activities can foster socialization among residents. Our residents love to watch such wonders as the hatching of butterflies and birds in our courtyard patio. These simple pleasures of life bring our dementia residents so much joy!
Memory care activities are constantly evolving the Katzman Family Center for Living. We strive to create experiences based upon the resident’s specific abilities and interests. Our highly skilled staff designs activities that are personalized for each and every resident.
Typical morning consists of an arts program such as flower arranging, song-writing, listening to music or a creative group discussion.
Afternoons are filled with competitions involving staff and residents such as the shuffle toss, bowling, basket toss games and fishing tournaments.
Night activities include card games, art projects concerts and birthday/holiday celebrations.

My Mother was here for rehab. I was very happy that she was able to be there because for all the bad things you hear about nursing homes, none of those issues occurred here. The first thing you will notice is when you walk in there are no offensive smells. The staff is caring, attentive, and they pay attention. Physical therapists do an excellent job and my mother was determined to work hard and come home. The therapists did a great job and she was ready to come in 2 weeks because they did a great job and she did what she was told to do so when she did come home. The 85 year old woman who could not get out of bed without assistance 2 weeks earlier had improved that she was 75% better than 2 weeks earlier. The food is fresh with many choices and excellent for an institutional facility.Close

The staff made this a good experience and care for my Dad for the last 2 years. They care about their work with the patients. They offer opportunities such as bingo, crafts, cookouts, and restaurant trips. The recreation director makes it fun. This is a skilled nursing facility with excellent RN nurses and CNAs. Common space is open planning living room/room dining room home like open style with an open kitchen. You will not see nursing home equipment in halls or spaces making it feel more like a home. The cafe and lobby is new and modern with large windows looking out over Boston’s skyline. It makes a nice meeting place with coffee and pastry.Close

The Katzman Center for Living is one of the best nursing and rehab centers I’ve been to. I’m a vendor that visits the facility and nearly 30 others on a weekly basis. Very clean and welcoming is what I’d say about it. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, I would spend quite a bit of time inside the building, interacting with staff and residents while inspecting equipment. After the pandemic was under way, The Chelsea Jewish Foundation was one of the first to bring things under control and bring an order to the chaos. I can safely say that if and when I ever need to live in such a place, The Chelsea Jewish Foundation will be my first choice. The staff and administration really care about the residents, their work and each other. I’m always seeing signs posted for events for residents and families, and things like food pantry for employees on Fridays. Certainly consider this place for your loved ones.Close

The staff has been simply amazing to my mother. They are so caring and patient with her. She was agitated and despondent the last few months she lived with us, but since coming to the Katzman Center, she is much calmer and seems more content. She loves the art program! Her face lights up every time she shows me a project.Close
