Hospice & Palliative Care

As part of chronic care and end-of-life services, hospice and palliative care are tools that facilitate not only the patient, but also the support network of the patient pain management, spiritual care, care goals, and hospitalization prevention are all part of the compassionate care provided to support those who need chronic care and end-of-life life support. As each individual’s journey is unique, the services provided are customized to support these needs. Hospice and palliative care can be provided at home, in an assisted living and in long-term care residences.

What is the difference between palliative care and hospice care?

While both palliative care and hospice care offer comfort, palliative care can begin with a diagnosis and, if warranted, treatment. Hospice care begins after treatment of the disease is stopped and all options have been explored. Hospice care and palliative care address an individual’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Hospice care can help with such daily activities as administering medications, bathing, and dressing.

What does the hospice admission process involve?

One of the first things the hospice program will do is contact the person’s physician to make sure he or she agrees that hospice care is appropriate for the patient. The client will be asked to sign consent and insurance forms. These are similar to the forms patients sign when they enter a hospital.

Why do individuals and families choose hospice care?

For seriously ill individuals, hospice and palliative care is a way to receive the most appropriate and compassionate care. It can help improve the quality of life, bringing a measure of comfort to all involved.

Does insurance pay for hospice care?

Legacy Lifecare accepts Medicare and Medicaid as well as many third-party private insurance plans. Call our Admissions Department at 617-889-0779 to discuss your coverage. We can guide you through the process, making it as easy as possible.
