Meet Kit Kitabou Minteh, RN BSN – Director of Nursing at Katzman Family Center for Living

For the past six years with Chelsea Jewish Lifecare, Kitabou Minteh, or Kit as he is fondly called, has played an instrumental role at Katzman Family Center for Living. And although the pandemic has been an exceptionally challenging time, Kit saw, firsthand, the resilience and dedication of both the staff and the residents. As he explains, “This was a situation we never had to deal with before –one that we had never even imagined. It was amazing to see how the entire staff pulled together and how our residents and families supported us in those early moments of the Covid-19 crisis.”

Kit began his career as a CNA and attended North Shore Community College, where he pursued his initial nursing education by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Realizing that he wanted to focus on nursing, both personally and professionally, Kit obtained an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and ultimately, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Southern New Hampshire University.

Kit and his wife Jankeh reside in Lynn, where they are busy raising their three children: Lamin (13), Fatimah (9) and Ibrahim (4). Admittedly, it is a busy household and Kit is grateful for the unwavering encouragement of his family, most especially during the challenging healthcare crisis. In his spare time, Kit enjoys sports, specifically running and watching soccer games.

For Kit, one of the hardest aspects of the pandemic has been the isolation of the residents. “I found it devastating when families could not be with their love ones at the end of life due to the pandemic,” said Kit. “But I also felt privileged that my nursing staff and I could be present at the bedside for these residents and families.” Kit is extremely grateful for the support of the CJL organization. “Leadership provided us with all the tools, directions and help necessary to help us give the most effective resident care under an extremely difficult period,” said Kit.

When asked what working at KCL for six years has taught him, Kit was quick to respond. “I have found Chelsea Jewish Lifecare to be a truly exceptional organization. “I’ve worked in other long term care settings and there is no comparison,” stated Kit. “The level of inclusivity I saw from the start at CJL is amazing. This is an organization were everyone counts, every employee is listened to, and every single person is treated with respect. Above all, no one is overlooked for growth and development opportunities within the organization.” Added Kit, “I intend to be part of this great organization for decades to come.”
