Charlie “Honey” Lanzillo, a much beloved resident at Cohen Florence Levine Estates, celebrated his 100th birthday on January 7.
His career was spent working at the Chelsea Record, so it’s very appropriate that the newspaper interviewed him for this milestone event.
Yari Velez, Executive Director of the assisted living, noted that Charlie is adored by residents and staff alike. “He is the sweetest, kindest man,” said Yari. “Everyone just loves him.”
Charlie, a self-proclaimed “junk food junkie,” is a huge fan of Oretha Simmons, the pastry chef at Chelsea Jewish Lifecare. Her oatmeal raisin cookies are his all-time favorites. Charlie’s daughter, Susan DeSantis, encourages him to eat all he wants. “Don’t hold back,” says Susan. “At this age, what’s the difference?”
Take a look at the recent Chelsea Record story about Charlie and his extraordinary life. Happy Birthday Charlie!
