Fall is in Full Swing at Kaplan Estates and Brudnick Center

July through October have been full of engaging activities and community spirit. Let’s look at some of the highlights:

What is summer without a classic lobster roll? We designated July as “Lobster Roll Month” and it was a huge success! Residents enjoyed homemade lobster rolls, coleslaw, fries, and ice-cream for dessert. Everyone voted unanimously to hold it again. next year!

In the spirit of the 2024 Olympics, our res idents participated in the mini Olympic Games. From target shooting with ping pong balls to relay races using toothpicks and lifesavers, and even javelin throwing with pool noodles, we celebrated athleticism and camaraderie. Congratulations to all our medal winners, especially Ryna Veneziano, who proudly displayed her first-ever medal!

Looks like there are many “green thumbs” in our midst. Residents were in favor of the new raised beds we acquired this year. Flowers, tomatoes, kale, herbs, and melons now thrive in our community. Gardening fosters a connection with nature and brings joy to our campus.

Over at Kaplan Estates, Assisted Living Week was celebrated with an ice cream sundae bar and a lively carnival. Games, popcorn, and music were enjoyed by all.

The baking group at Brudnick whipped up peanut butter cookies, filling the air with delicious aromas. Staff members and residents alike couldn’t resist sampling these delectable treats. Baking together creates bonds and cherished memories. Residents also used their fine motor skills and imagination when making “baby baked apples” by dipping their own caramel apples (actually made from grapes) into caramel and other fun toppings. This sweet treat evoked memories of apple picking and eating apples on a stick.

For the first time ever, the Brudnick Center is hosting a Crafts Fair featuring local artists. The date is October 27 from 10am to 4pm! There will be a wonderful assortment of handmade jewelry, shawls, hats and gloves, baby gifts, watercolor paintings, dog sweaters and much more. Plus there’ll be mouthwatering treats and a ton of raffles. Don’t miss this amazing, one-of-a-kind event. Hope everyone can come!

A group of Kaplan residents attended Mayor Bettencourt’s Senior Day at Brooksby Farm. Lunch, followed by ice cream, made the day fun, along with an entertaining performance by an Elvis impersonator. Mayor Bettencourt visited Kaplan this summer for our “Over 100 Birthday Celebration so it was nice to see him again!

Thank you for being part of our family at the Brudnick Center for Living and Kaplan Estates!
