Since 1982, Shapiro-Rudolph Adult Day Health has been an area leader in adult day health services. We provide a safe and secure program for individuals who need additional help during the day. This is a terrific option for seniors and their families since it allows adults to get the help they need while continuing to live in their own home.
Adult Day Health at a Glance
Philosophy of Health
We strongly believe that “Health and Wellness” is a vital component of our programming. It’s important to be happy, healthy and active at every stage of life.
Quality of Care
Our team works diligently to improve the physical and mental well-being of clients, providing quality care while maintaining a level of independence. We also offer support for families, caregiver support groups, participant advocacy and discharge planning.
Nutrition
The always-changing menus prove that balanced diets can indeed be delicious through the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients. We serve two healthy meals a day, plus snacks.
Activities
We offer activities designed to promote self-esteem, independence and dignity. Participants enjoy community outings, entertainment, creative music programming, dance and art, gardening, massage and Tai Chi, cooking groups, games, strength training, holiday celebrations – and more.
On-site Support
A key advantage of the Center are our lab and x-ray capabilities. Medication monitoring, medical attention and wound care are available. Other support services include a geriatric –psych nurse, physical and occupational therapy, licensed independent social workers, specialized care programs and psychiatric support.
Insurance
The Shapiro-Rudolph Adult Day Health Center accepts MassHealth, Veteran’s Benefits, Aging Service Access Point (ASAP. Private pay and long-term care insurance are also options).
Individual Plans
Tailoring each plan to the specific individual, we engage our participants throughout the day. Here you’ll find socialization activities and services that promote independence and good health. Available options: monitoring vital signs; physical, occupational, and speech therapies; exercise in a state-of-the-art gym; supervision of the activities of daily living.
Transportation
The day center contracts with a transportation company for wheelchair and ambulatory transportation. Many families provide their own transportation; arrangements can also be made through THE RIDE and other community options.
The First Step: Meet with a Care Professional
Conduct Care Plan Assessments
Working with adults, we first conduct an assessment of the senior’s needs. Next, we design a plan to promote self-esteem, independence and dignity. Our goal: to improve the physical and cognitive skills, while at the same time, create a schedule that incorporates interests, social opportunities and activities.
Professional Staff
Located in the Waldfogel Health Center on our North Shore campus, the staff is comprised of RNs, LPNs, Certified Nursing Assistants, Licensed Social Workers and Activity Staff. Serving approximately 45 participants a day, the adult day health program is open Monday through Friday.
Habilitation Approach
Our staff is trained in the Habilitation approach to dementia care using the “Caring for People with Alzheimer’s Disease” program created by the Alzheimer’s Association/MANH Chapter. We take great pride in our seniors receiving outstanding medical and rehabilitative care that is best suited to their specific needs.
Testimonials
Testimonial: Maureen
I just want to thank you from the bottom of my broken heart for the warm welcome you gave to my father. He was so happy to have everyone welcome him and told me it was the “most wonderful” day. He described every minute of the day, what he had for breakfast and lunch, how happy he was to be part of every event and how he feels so comforted knowing he can return to all the people at Shapiro-Rudolph Adult Day Health Center. He deeply understands why my mother loved coming each week over more than 10 years! I am so grateful for all you and your staff do for him.
