Swampscott, MA- Jewish Rehabilitation Center of the North Shore (JRC) will be holding a wedding at their facility on Sunday December 3, 2006 at 2pm. Thanks in part to the JRC‘s Dream Committee, resident Sarah Cohen will fulfill her lifelong dream of attending the wedding of her granddaughter, Alyssa Cohen.
Although Alyssa and her husband, Robert Sherman, were previously wed in Chicago in October, Alyssa’s grandmother was unable to attend the ceremony due to her current health condition. Alyssa and her family sought the help of the JRC Dream Committee; a member of the not-for-profit organization, Second Wind Dreams. The Dream Committee was able to grant Sarah’s wish, and has worked diligently to coordinate this extraordinary event.
The JRC Dream Program is committed to enhancing the quality of life of residents at the JRC facility, Shapiro-Rudolph Adult Day Center, and Woodbridge Assisted Living. This special group consists of JRC staff, community members, and student volunteers from Marblehead High School. By conducting informal interviews and discussions, the Dream Committee determines what wishes and dreams the residents and clients of each facility hope to have fulfilled. In doing so, the Dream Committee increases resident optimism, provides life-changing volunteer opportunities, and ultimately enriches the JRC community for everyone.
Thanks to generous donations of services, funds, and time, the Dream Committee has been able to fulfill wishes for JRC residents such as Sara Cohen and many others for close to two years.
Along with friends and family, several of Sarah Cohen’s friend’s at JRC have received invitations to witness the traditional Jewish wedding ceremony. A reception will follow, at which point all JRC residents are welcome to attend and enjoy music, dancing, and appetizers.
