Ships Ahoy: Adventure, Spirit, and Fun Highlight the High Seas at Chelsea’s Assisted Living Residences

Residents at the Cohen Florence Levine Estates and the Florence & Chafetz Home for Specialized Care set sail for a day of high-spirited adventure during this year’s all-day Pirates Day celebration. From dawn to dusk, the residences were transformed into a lively seaport filled with laughter, friendly competition, and seafaring fun.

The morning kicked off with themed activities, including a spirited scavenger hunt and a competitive Pirate Passport Game. Residents discovered their very own pirate names before traveling through four lively Ports of Call, collecting stickers in hopes of earning a special treasure by day’s end. Swashbuckling games added to the excitement, with favorites such as the fishing challenge and the always-hilarious Sea Serpent Race—where participants raced to reel in a roll of “sea serpent” (also known as toilet paper!)

Staff members dove into the spirit of the day as well, taking part in an Employee Treasure Hunt that sent them searching high and low for hidden rubies throughout the building. The competition was fierce, fun, and undeniably pirate-like.

Lunch featured a hearty pirate-themed feast of fish and chips, inspired by the shores of the Yucatán Peninsula and worthy of even the hungriest buccaneers.

The biggest thrill came in the afternoon when educators from the Real Pirates of Salem Museum arrived, bringing maritime history to life. Residents were treated to stories from Captain “Black Sam” Bellamy himself, along with authentic artifacts including a cannonball, 300-year-old coins, a shark’s tooth, and more. The hands-on experience captivated everyone and added a meaningful educational twist to the day’s adventures.

From start to finish, Pirates Day was filled with discovery, joy, and plenty of smiles. Our residents and staff alike embraced the spirit of the high seas—proving that adventure is alive and well on Admiral’s Hill!
