Masks, costumes, and laughter filled the halls as residents, staff, participants, student volunteers, and family members across Chelsea Jewish Lifecare’s Peabody campuses came together to celebrate Purim.

Festivities took place at the Jeffrey & Susan Brudnick Center for Living, Harriett and Ralph Kaplan Estates Assisted Living, and the Shapiro-Rudolph Adult Day Health Center, each offering its own unique celebration while sharing a common spirit of joy and community.

One of the most festive holidays in the Jewish calendar, Purim commemorates the saving of the Jewish people by Queen Esther from annihilation at the hands of Haman, as told in the Book of Esther. In keeping with tradition, celebrations featured lively entertainment, parades, colorful costumes, and the unmistakable sounds of noisemakers drowning out Haman’s name.

Guests also enjoyed hamantaschen— the classic triangular pastries associated with the holiday— along with music, dancing, and plenty of laughter.

“We were thrilled to host such a fun and festive celebration for our community,” said Tammy Starion, Executive Director of Jeffrey & Susan Brudnick Center for Living. “Purim is such a joyous holiday, and it was wonderful to see the smiles and hear the laughter of our residents, staff, and guests. We look forward to the costumes every year.”
