Aviv Centers for Living Offers AARP Driver Safety Program at Woodbridge Assisted Living on September 7
Aviv Centers for Living’s Geriatric Care Management team will offer the AARP Driver Safety Program at Woodbridge Assisted Living at 240 Lynnfield Street in Peabody on Wednesday, September 7 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The goal of the course is for older drivers to better understand the updated technologies in new vehicles, provide a refresher on the rules of the road and learn strategies to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing or response time.
“We are delighted to offer this driver safety course to the community as it underscores the importance of seniors driving safely and staying motivated to sharpen their skills. We encourage families to regularly talk to their loved ones about driving safely,” says Janice Glick, Aviv Centers for Living Director of Social Work Services. ” People who have concerns about their loved ones driving should consult a Geriatric Care Manager to further explore these issues, get referrals to driving evaluation programs and/or get help talking with their loved ones about these concerns.”
The course consists of one classroom session which will be taught by Nancy Doherty, an AARP Volunteer Driving Instructor. The AARP Driver Safety Program has offered safety refresher courses since 1970 to more than 11 million graduates. The cost of the program is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members (payable in advance by check to AARP). Participants must pre-register and bring a lunch. Call Leslie
